Former fishing skipper. Doesn’t sleep much at night, because old dogs sometimes need a friend at 3 a.m. Brews coffee with too many spoonfuls.
A home on four paws, Strandhunde — a holiday that smells of salt and sleep.
We are Roman and Yevgeniya. Together with our children, Christian and Sofia, and our senior French bulldog, Maja, we live in a cosy red-brick house just a three-minute walk from the water. While you are away, your dog stays in our home as a natural part of the family — never simply one among many. We welcome only a limited number of dogs at a time, ensuring a calm environment, genuine companionship, and plenty of individual care. Days are filled with long walks along the beach, familiar routines, and lots of personal attention. Before lunchtime, we send the day’s photos directly to you, so you can follow along and see how your dog is doing. And when a beach walk has left its mark on their coat, Sofia is ready with gentle, loving care.

The home
We have four
bedrooms &
only one is ours.
The rest belong to the guests — mostly small dogs under 12 kilos. Each has their own basket, their own corner, and their own rhythm. Some want to sleep on the sofa next to Yevgeniya; others prefer the utility room behind the kitchen, where it is cool and quiet and smells of cooling coffee.
We are not a kennel. There is no wire fencing, no cages, no concrete slabs. Just a house with plank floors, a big garden, and water at one end of it come summer.

Yevgeniya Petrenko
Veterinary nurse, queen of the kitchen
Trained as a veterinary nurse in Roskilde. Can tell “tired” from “sad” in 14 seconds. Also knows the recipe for the best liver pâté south of Køge.
Christian, 4
Ball thrower, master of the two-finger whistle
Can whistle every dog back in 30 seconds. Negotiates break time with Bjørn daily. Personal best in stick-catching: 14 in a row.
Sofia, 18
Illustrator, keeper of the guestbook
Draws every guest in ballpoint pen and gives them a stamp before departure. She designed the logo. She is quite proud of it.
III.
A day
Time passes here,
it just never hurries.
We keep a soft rhythm. The dogs are never woken, but they are never forgotten. A day looks roughly like this — adjusted to each guest’s age, energy, and mood.

Morning coffee and hello
Roman comes down the stairs with his coffee cup. Bjørn opens one eye. The others wait politely by their baskets until they have been greeted, one at a time.

Beach walk at dawn
Three kilometres along the water while the beach is empty. Off-lead dogs run. On-lead dogs walk. Roman always keeps a spare lead in his pocket in case anyone changes their mind.

Breakfast in enamel bowls
Yevgeniya makes the food. Wet or dry, boiled chicken or liver pâté — whatever you have sent along, and whatever your dog whispers to her.

Photo and note
We send one photo and two lines per dog every day before half past eleven. Never filler. Just what the dog has been up to, and how they are doing.

Rest and cuddles
The Danish midday nap. The children are at school. Yevgeniya reads. The dogs dream of balls, or of people who are not home yet.

Garden and play
820 m² of fenced garden. Balls, sticks, shade under the elder bush. Sofia takes notes for the guestbook.

Second walk — the long one
The forest path behind the house or the beach, depending on the weather and the mood. On Fridays Christian comes along by bike.

Dinner and a rinse
Food. Fresh water. Sandy paws get a quick wash in the utility room if the day involved the sea — and if the coat needs more than paws, wash & grooming is ready in the same room.

Goodnight, a cuddle, lights out
Every guest is wished goodnight by name. Roman does a last round at 11 p.m. If anyone is restless, he sleeps in the armchair next to them. It happens more often than we care to admit.

Honest, without surcharges

We do not charge extra for the photo diary, the long walks, driving to the vet in an emergency, or letting nervous dogs settle in over an extra evening or two first. That is simply part of it.

We’ll sort it.
Yevgeniya has been washing and clipping dogs since her veterinary days in Roskilde. It happens in the utility room — warm water, gentle shampoo, and far too much praise. We only clip small and medium breeds, up to about 15 kilos — just like the house guests. Your dog doesn’t have to be staying with us: grooming can be booked on its own, at drop-off or pick-up.

The area
Three minutes to the water,
twenty minutes from the city.
Solrød Strand lies 30 km south of Copenhagen on the Køge Bay coastline. The beach is flat, gently sloping, and perfect for dogs of every age. Behind it, low dunes with lyme grass and a coastal path that runs 9 km north to Mosede Fort.

We read every message together in the evening. Tell us a little about your dog — name, age, breed, habits, fears, food, and how long you will be away. We reply by the next day at the latest, often with a couple of questions.
